The nature of change naturally brings a lot of uncertainty, and it also offers a great gift: between the old and the new there's a gap. Like the emptiness between two breaths, this space holds potential – and we have the opportunity to co-create within it.

Many communities are facing a big challenge at the moment and many are going through crisis and cycles of renewal and change. Some are disillusioned, many are still (unconsciously) creating based on the “old world model” thus perpetuating old structures, some have given up the idea of community altogether.

Yet, let’s remember – something beautiful happens when we move in:to community: Together, we co-create the future – for ourselves and for those who come after us. And just like we can physically achieve more when we work hand in hand, we can hold and move more energy when our hearts and spirits are joined as one.

Let’s use this moment – this transition – as an opportunity to rethink and re-envision communities that are future-oriented, resilient, rooted in coherence, in right relationship with the Earth and all beings, and deeply integrated within the larger social and ecological systems they belong to.

Let’s expand our vision beyond what we have known to imagine new ways of collaborating cross-culturally and cross-community, to establish equilibrium within our community centers, and work together to anchor this new vision and stabilize within the greater field.

From Individual To Communal To Collective

Now, let’s widen the field–just like a person entering a community becomes part of a unified whole, each community becomes like a singular organism within the greater collective.

Imagine humans and communities as bodies of light – bodies of energy and power – woven together as threads in the vast tapestry of life. Every community is a living thread in the great tapestry of life – made up of many individual threads.

Like a web of light – hand in hand, side by side – we are all connected, and we have the opportunity to weave across regions and cultures with shared values and mutual accountability. The more each one of us shine – and contribute that energy to any one community – the more luminous the tapestry becomes. The more we weave together, the more resilient and coherent the future becomes.

This not only means that we are part of a bigger pattern, it also asks us to pay attention to the patterns. If there’s holes and errors in the tapestry it will – especially over ‘time’ – negatively affect the whole.
